The Sequim City Council Appoints Jennifer States to Fill Vacant City Council Position

The Sequim City Council voted unanimously to appoint Jennifer States to fill the vacant City Council position at the January 8, 2018 City Council Meeting. The position became open with the passing of Councilor John Miller on November 29, 2017. The term for the position will expire on December 31, 2019. The decision was made after interviewing the five candidates that had applied for the position. In addition to States, Bernard Ray, David Eaton, Ron Fairclough, and Richard Fleck were also interviewed. States was sworn into office by Mayor Dennis Smith at the meeting.

States has a professional background in energy and clean technology. She currently works as the Business Development Manager for DNV GL – Energy Advisory America. Her previous local experience includes work at the Port of Port Angeles, the Composite Recycling Technology Center, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She is the co-owner of Wind Rose Cellars winery in Sequim.

“I want to help Sequim grow sustainably from both an economic and environmental perspective,” States wrote in her application for the position. “In the next two years, more people will continue to discover what a beautiful place this is to live and what a great community we have here. To maintain that beauty requires smart growth and good planning that looks to the future and strikes the right balance.”
