The City of Sequim Opens 2018 Comprehensive Plan Amendment Docket Process

The City of Sequim has opened the 2018 Comprehensive Plan Amendment Docket Process. All cities and counties that comply with the Growth Management Act must perform a major Comprehensive Plan review and update every eight years; however, many local jurisdictions consider proposed amendments on a more frequent basis. As per RCW 36.70A.130(2), cities and counties may consider proposed amendments no more frequently than once per year, with some exceptions. Rather than adopting changes on a piecemeal basis, proposed amendments must be considered "concurrently so the cumulative effect of the various proposals can be ascertained." The City of Sequim considers such amendments (typically as a docket of proposed amendments) on an annual cycle pursuant to Sequim Municipal Code (SMC 18.88.070). Application for amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Plan must be submitted to the City’s Department of Community Development prior to the close of business on May 1, 2018.

The City of Sequim is accepting applications for text and map amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan until 4:00 pm on May 1, 2018. Those wishing to propose amendments must submit a complete application on forms available from the City of Sequim’s Department of Community Development. The Comprehensive Plan amendment process includes a pre-submittal conference, which must be scheduled prior to the close of business on May 1, 2018. Comprehensive Plan amendment applications must be accompanied by a completed SEPA checklist with environmental review. After the May 1, 2018 deadline, City staff will present proposed amendments to the City Council for review. Amendments approved by the City Council for review will become the City’s 2018 Comprehensive Plan Docket. Cost for a combined Comprehensive Plan amendment application and SEPA checklist is $2,245. If a proposal is not docketed by the Council, the City will refund the application and SEPA fees to the applicant.

Please contact Department of Community Development Manager Barry Berezowsky at (360) 681-3435 with any questions.
