Police
Welcome from the Police Chief
The Sequim Police Department is comprised of 23 paid professional staff and an almost equal number of citizen volunteers. Through the combined synergy of these men and women, the City of Sequim enjoys a rather remarkable level of police service. There are 19 sworn police officers, and three support employees.

Citizen Volunteers
Additionally, there are two sworn reserve officers (fully empowered citizen volunteer officers with powers of arrest), and an additional 20 or so support volunteers who do everything from neighborhood patrols, house checks, front office support, traffic control, crime scene protection, and child seat installation education.

Modern Policing Philosophy
Sir Robert Peele (the father of modern policing philosophy) once said the community are the police and police are the community. His position is that all of us in the community are responsible for our own safety and security, and the only difference is that police officers are paid to carry out the task on a full time basis. This philosophy is the essence of community policing.

Community Policing
The Police Department must represent the community and the community must have a stake in its police services. As you can see from the description of our staff, ours is a diverse group of paid officers, volunteer officers, paid support staff, and volunteer support staff. I think it is an outstanding example of great community policing and I invite anyone in our community to join us in making Sequim a great and safe place to live, work, or visit.
