Drug/Prescription Medication Take-Back

The goal

The Drug Take-Back Program aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs as well as educate the public on how medications can be misused or abused when they are not properly disposed of. There are three very important reasons that we provide this service:

                            1.  To keep medications including narcotics off of our streets and out of the wrong hands,
                                 including children.
                            2.  To keep medications from going into our sewer system.
                            3.  To keep medications out of landfill.

How it works
The Sequim Police Department Drug Take-Back secure receptacle is available to the community in our lobby, residents can drop off expired or unused prescription medications without having to wonder whether they will be accepted—even controlled substances are taken. Items that will not be accepted are syringes, loose pills, liquid medications that may spill. Loose pills can be placed in a container and then they will be accepted.

This service has been hugely successful in our community, collecting large quantities of prescription medication.  This is free, anonymous, and convenient.
