Legal Department
The city attorney provides legal advice to city officials and staff and represents them in civil court and administrative proceedings. The city attorney and other Legal Department staff cannot give legal advice or representation to members of the general public.

In January 2016 the City of Sequim entered into an Interlocal Agreement with Clallam County that provides for the County to handle Criminal Justice Services related to misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor charges, infractions, and pre-file diversions arising from activities that occur within the Sequim city limits. Criminal Justice Services include but are not limited to prosecution, indigent defense, sentencing and incarceration. Misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor crimes are those which may be punished by up to one year in jail.

Felony crimes committed in Sequim are prosecuted by the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, located in Port Angeles.
