Legal Department
Functions
The city attorney provides legal advice to city officials and staff and represents them in civil court and administrative proceedings. Note: The city attorney and other Legal Department staff cannot give legal advice or representation to members of the general public. 

An Interlocal Agreement with Clallam County provides that Criminal Justice Services would be provided by Clallam County beginning January 1, 2016 . Criminal Justice Services includes all work, functions, duties, prosecution, adjudication, indigent defense, sentencing, and incarceration services for City misdemeanants.

Misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor crimes are those which may be punished by up to one year in jail. Felony crimes committed in Sequim are prosecuted by the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office located in Port Angeles.

Legal Department Staff
The Sequim Legal Department consists of the city attorney and staff members. At times staff may include legal interns, assistant city attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries. In 2011, the Legal Department has the following full-time positions employed:

  • Legal secretary / receptionist
