Matthew Huish Biography

Matthew Huish

Matthew Huish began his employment as Sequim City Manager on November 1, 2021.  Matt came to Sequim from Sandy City, Utah where he served as the Chief Administrative Officer.  Prior to his work in local government, he enjoyed an extensive career in the health care industry, both the public and private sectors, including several start-up ventures. He also enjoyed his work as a corporate officer in a Fortune 500 public company, and as an administrator at the University of Utah Medical Center.

Matt’s years in the medical field have developed a refined unique and valuable skill set for his work in local government through training in root cause identification and analysis, and specific corrective action planning. His decision making is data driven, relying on analytics to support continuous improvement processes.  Matt prioritizes efficiencies in operations and strives to make processes faster, easier, less expensive, and better for employees, residents, and business owners.  Matt champions the use of technology to support efficiencies and to improve customer and employee satisfaction.

When he is not working to make Sequim a better place to live, work, and play, Matt enjoys taking full advantage of Sequim’s easy access to outdoor recreation.  He is an avid cyclist, swimmer, sailor, skier, and hiker.  He loves spending time with his family including his wife Sandra, eight sons, one daughter and 26 grandchildren (at last count).  Matt grew up in Tacoma where he graduated from Stadium High School and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Puget Sound and his Executive Master of Business Administration at the University of Utah.  He is excited to “get back” to the Northwest where he can “give back” through his commitment to community service.
