The City of Sequim will host the 2nd annual Sequim Sunshine Festival Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. The festival has been streamlined to meet the safety requirements necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cornerstone event of this year’s festival is the Sun Fun Color Run, which will include a live event, 1K and 5K options, on Saturday, March 6, and a virtual event to be completed between March 6 and March 31. The event will begin and end at the Water Reuse Site at Carrie Blake Park. All Washington State guidelines for COVID-19 safety will be followed. Register for the run at https://runsignup.com/Race/WA/Sequim/SunFunColorRun. Volunteers are still needed for the event. You can sign up to volunteer at https://runsignup.com/Race/Volunteer/WA/Sequim/SunFunColorRun.
The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce has created the Sunny Sequim Scavenger Hunt for the festival. Participants can download the free GooseChase app on their iPhone or Android to play the game or stop by the Sequim Visitor Information Center at 1192 E. Washington Street to pick up a paper version of the game. The Sunny Sequim Scavenger Hunt will be available beginning Friday, March 5. It encourages family and friends to get out and explore the Sequim-Dungeness Valley, have fun, and learn something new about the area.
The festival will bring back some of the holiday lights we enjoyed with an enhanced exhibit at the Water Reuse Site at Carrie Blake Park to help brighten the winter nights over the weekend.
The Sequim City Council declared 2021 as the Year of Kindness in Sequim. The Sequim Sunshine Festival will incorporate the theme and launch the “Be the I in Kind” billboard. The board will be at the Sun Fun Color Run and will then be at Centennial Place on the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street. Festival goers are encouraged to take their picture with the sign, to look for other signs of kindness in town, and post to social media using the hashtag #BeKindSequim.
