The Sequim City Council congratulated the first graduating class of the Sequim 101 Citizen’s Academy at their March 22 meeting.  Fourteen Sequim area residents completed the 10-week program designed to educate on government structure and City operations lead by elected officials and City staff.

Program graduates are Janine Bocciardi, John Bridge, Dave Eberle, Ben Fisher, Katina Hester, Karen Hogan, Cathy Kurtz, Tim Kurtz, Catherine McKinney, Kevin Roth, Jon Sneed, Autumn Wolfgang, Charla Wright, and Nicole Wright.

“It was exciting to see such an overwhelming response from our citizens to learn more about how our City government works” said Mayor William Armacost.  “And kudos to the department heads for doing such an excellent job presenting the information!”

“I feel fortunate to have participated in Sequim 101,” said graduate Tim Kurtz.  “I moved to Sequim about 2.5 months before the first class.  Prior to moving to Sequim, I lived in the same city for almost 29 years.  Now, after attending all the Sequim 101 virtual sessions and trying to absorb the material from those classes, I feel that I know more about my new hometown than I was able to learn during three decades at my previous residence.  Sequim 101 gave me a solid knowledge base on how the City works and it left me with great appreciation for the dedicated, diligent, creative public servants who make the City work so well.  It was an honor to participate.”

“Sequim 101 was very interesting on multiple levels,” added Charla Wright.  “The best part, however, was putting faces to names with the players in the City.  Also, learning what they do, how much their jobs entail as well as the breadth and depth of assignments was amazing.  We have so many talented people in the City and young to boot!  I was surprised at how many younger employees are in key roles.”

The City of Sequim will be announcing another session of Sequim 101 later in 2021.  Please contact the City at 360-683-4908 with questions.
