[ARCHIVED] Sequim City Council Member Resigns

Sequim City Council Member Bill Huizinga notified the City by letter on August 7, 2012 that effective immediately, he can no longer serve on the council as he has moved out of the city limits.

“I have enjoyed working with staff and council people over the years and will always treasure this time in my life,” Huizinga stated in his letter.

Bill Huizinga has served on the Sequim City Council since March 2001, when he was appointed. He was first elected to the council in 2002 and was subsequently elected in 2006 and 2010.

“Councilor Huizinga’s contribution to the City these past 12 years, as a council member and as a community leader, is significant,” said City of Sequim Mayor Ken Hays. “His service is to be praised and respected – his shoes will be difficult to fill. I wish him and his family all the best and a fond farewell from the Sequim City Council. He will be missed.”

City Seeks Sequim City Council Candidates
The vacant Sequim City Council position will be filled by appointment. The term will expire December 31, 2013. The salary is $150 per month. Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Sequim, have a one-year continuous period of residence in the City of Sequim, and hold no other public office or employment under the city government.

Interviews for the vacant council position will take place on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. These interviews will be conducted by the City Council at a regularly scheduled meeting. The meetings are held at the Sequim Transit Center located at 190 West Cedar Street.

360-683-4139, or online at www.sequimwa.gov. The deadline for submitting completed applications to the City Clerk’s Office is 4:00 p.m. September 14, 2012.
