Tom Youman, Chief Mechanic for the City of Sequim is retiring effective November 1, 2012. Youman was recognized for his service by the Sequim City Council and city staff with a plaque at the September 10, 2012 City Council meeting.
Youman began his employment with the City of Sequim on February 15, 1991 as a mechanic helper. He was later promoted to Chief Mechanic. Prior to working for the City, Youman served in the United States Army and later worked as a mechanic on marine equipment in Port Angeles.
“With more than 50 pieces of aging, rolling equipment and vehicles to keep ready to go, as well as backup generators, snow and ice control equipment and other operation and emergency equipment to keep tuned, Tom has been invaluable as our chief mechanic,” said Public Works Director Paul Haines. “Most often what keeps the City running is well behind the scenes and Tom has been a key to literally keep us up and running. We appreciate all Tom has done.”
The Chief Mechanic position will be filled by City Mechanic Pete Agostine.
