[ARCHIVED] Reminder: Memorial Service and Procession Route For Fallen Firefighter

The public is invited to join the Cate family and Clallam County Fire District 3 as they remember the life and service of Captain Charles “Chad” Cate. Captain Cate passed away on January 12, 2023, while on-duty. A procession and memorial with full fire service honors will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Chad was a valued member of the Sequim community and Fire District 3, whom he served with professionalism and compassion for 29 years. 

A procession of fire apparatus will take place through Sequim prior to the service, between 11 – 11:30 a.m. The public is invited to pay their respects by standing along the route which runs from US 101 north on Sequim Avenue, west on Washington Street, north on 5th Avenue, east on Fir Street and turning north on Sequim Avenue arriving at the Sequim High School. A map of the public procession route is available at www.ccfd3.org. 

Residents and motorists should expect increased traffic and slowdowns during the procession and after the memorial. 

The memorial will begin at 12:30 p.m.in the Sequim High School Gymnasium, 601 North Sequim Avenue.

 The public should plan to arrive either before 11:00 a.m. or after 12:00 p.m. Parking will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the arrival of the procession. Parking is limited, and guests are encouraged to carpool. 

Those unable to attend in person can watch the service that will be live-streamed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/9sg2Sm5Esvg. All media planning to attend the memorial must contact the public information officers in advance of the events. Media must have validated credentials. 

Emergency vehicles planning to participate in the procession are requested to be pre-registered at www.tinyurl.com/ChadCateMemorial. Additional information will be shared upon pre-registration.
