[ARCHIVED] Former City Planner Returns to the City of Sequim

Former City Planner Joe Irvin returns to the City of Sequim in a temporary Special Projects Manager position. Beginning March 31, 2014, Irvin will assist other City departments with priority projects. His responsibilities for 2014 will include:

• Prepare and manage the City Parks master plan and the Parks and Recreation element of the City’s comprehensive plan.
• Assist the Public Works Director in the development of the City’s capital improvement plan.
• Manage the coordination of City involvement with seasonal special events.
• Assist the City Engineer with the Civic Center project management.
• Assist in the completion of the City’s comprehensive plan by translating the water, sewer, and transportation plans into comprehensive plan language.

The temporary position will be funded by approved dollars to fill a manager level vacancy in the Public Works Department and some professional services dollars that were approved to develop a Parks and Recreation master plan.

“Although Joe brings much technical strength to this position from his City work experience, some of his greatest strengths are his strong commitment, interpersonal skills, and his knowledge of the Sequim community and organizational values,” said City Manager Steve Burkett.

Irvin worked for the City of Sequim from 2005 to 2011 as a City Planner and as Interim Planning Director prior to the hiring of Chris Hugo. Irvin and his family moved to Florida in 2011, so his wife could pursue her Master’s Degree. While in Florida, Irvin has worked for the City of Marco Island as the city’s Zoning Administrator. He is currently serving as Interim Community Affairs Director.
