The City of Sequim Department of Community Development will be closed August 29 through September 2, 2016 for evaluation of the design review and permitting processes. City employees will continue a staff initiative that began last May with the Lean Academy, offered by the Local Government Performance Center as part of the Washington State Auditor’s Office, to evaluate the development review and approval processes for building permits and land use changes within the Sequim city limits. All services provided by the Department of Community Development will not be available that week.
Open House August 31
The City will host an Open House on Wednesday, August 31 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 West Cedar Street, to receive input on the progress made up to that point. Members of the development community and the general public are encouraged to attend.
The Lean Academy
The Lean Academy is a Management System that utilizes a set of principles and tools that help people learn to see and eliminate excess steps and processes following a methodology that is customer focused and employee driven. The goal of the training is to discover ways to do more with less while increasing productivity. The team will be guided to find improvement opportunities that are low or no cost and which can be implemented immediately. Typical outcomes of working with the Lean Academy include: increased capacity, improved quality, a map of the new process, an implementation plan, and a communications plan.
