The Sequim City Council welcomed two new Student Liaisons to the City Council at the June 26, 2017 regular meeting.
Teya Nop moved to Sequim at the age of three from Takeo, Cambodia. She has made it her mission to be a part of something bigger than herself and is involved in Leadership, the Associated Student Body (ASB), Be the Change Club, International Club, Interact, and the National Honor Society. Outside of school, she volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and the Sequim Food Bank.
Haelee Andres was born and raised in Sequim. She is committed to being actively involved in the Sequim community and is looking forward to her role as Student Liaison to help solve problems and offer the perspective of youth in Sequim. Andres is also involved in Leadership, Interact, and Be the Change Club. Her art class had the opportunity to create the mural at Whimsy Park on Washington Street. Outside of school she works at the Black Bear Diner and Purple Haze Lavender to raise money for college where she plans to study education. She hopes to return to Sequim as a High School teacher after college.
Both students attend Sequim High School and are entering their senior year in the fall. They were selected by the school to serve as student liaisons to the City Council as a part of the school’s Leadership program.
