[ARCHIVED] City of Sequim to Host Comprehensive Plan Visioning Workshops

The City of Sequim introduces “SEQUIM 120” the citizen participation program of the comprehensive plan update. The program will begin with “visioning” workshops on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m., and on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The workshops will take place at the Sequim Transit Center located at 190 W. Cedar Street in Sequim.

Each workshop can accommodate approximately 75 people and will include a variety of interactive activities including: “pulse pad” values statement opinion polling; futures mapping; a take-home “word cloud” questionnaire; and an activity focused on transportation values/priorities.

The City asks that citizens interested in participating call the new SEQUIM 120 “hotline” (360) 582-2448 and leave a name and contact information to sign up for a session or request for more information. Participants can also sign up by sending an email to the project team at SEQUIM120@sequimwa.gov.

SEQUIM 120 was chosen as a name for the public participation program of the comprehensive plan update because it reflects the legacy of 100 years since the City was incorporated, and the community’s preparation for the next 20 years of growth. The new logo reflects the key elements of planning: people, place, and paths to the future.

The City’s current comprehensive plan was written in 2006 during a time when the City was experiencing unprecedented growth and development. Now that the local and global economies have changed, so have the conditions for change. An updated and current comprehensive plan can be more deliberate about how to accommodate change in ways that promote opportunity, respect community values, and improve quality of life.
