The construction of the new sewer main along Sunnyside Avenue is complete and in service. The new water main along Sunnyside Avenue is complete and being tested. It is anticipated that the water main will be in service next week.

“Underground utility work generally is the riskiest type of civil construction due to the potential to encounter unforeseen conditions that can impact a project’s schedule and cost,” said City Engineer and Assistant Public Works Director Matt Klontz.

The project did encounter utilities near the Etta Street alley that had to be re-routed and connected to the new mains at alternate locations. This resulted in several days of daytime work rather than nighttime work as originally planned.

Still to be completed are sidewalk and curb ramp improvements, paving restoration, and final paving from East Maple Street to East Fir Street along Sunnyside Avenue. Drivers can expect temporary lane closures and short delays lasting 15 to 30 minutes.

Post Office Driveway on Sunnyside Avenue Closure
The post office driveway entrance and exit located along South Sunnyside will closed beginning Thursday, March 29 and will reopen Monday, April 2. Access to the Post Office during the closure will be from the East Maple St driveway.

It is anticipated that all work will be complete by the end of April.
