[ARCHIVED] Sequim City Council Declares an Emergency, Civic Center Closed to the Public

New Utility Bill Pay Box

The Sequim City Council declared a State of Civil Emergency in accordance with Title 2.60 of the Sequim Municipal Code at a special meeting held Monday, March 16.  The declaration authorizes the Police Department and other City staff to take what steps are necessary to ensure that the effects of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak that is occurring nationwide will be minimized in the City of Sequim.

“We emphasize that this declaration is primarily precautionary in nature.  There have been NO positive tests of the virus in Clallam County at the time.  However, this declaration is desirable so that civil and health authorities can move IMMEDIATELY if circumstances change,” said Deputy Mayor Ted Miller.

“While the COVID-19 health risk in Sequim is currently theoretical, the economic risk to the city businesses and their employees is very real.  We plan to do everything in our power to return to normalcy in the shortest possible time.”

Sequim Civic Center to Close to the Public

To protect the public and City staff, the Sequim Civic Center will close to the public beginning on Tuesday, March 17 at 7:30 a.m. due to the threat of COVID-19.  City services can be accessed through the City website https://sequimwa.gov, by calling the City at (360) 683-4139 or by emailing staff directly. Most staff emails can be found on the City website staff directory.  Whenever possible staff will be working from home for the foreseeable future.  The City asks for the public’s patience as staff resources may be limited.

Police Department

The Police Department will continue to provide essential services. Non-essential services, such as finger printing and concealed weapons permits will be suspended until further notice.  In the case of an emergency call 911.  To contact the Police Department for non-emergencies call (360) 683-7227.
