1. What is the design criteria for the City of Sequim?

2. Do I need a building permit?

Generally, yes. SMC 15.04.025 lists exemptions from permit requirements. Always contact us if you're in doubt.

3. Do you accept electronic submittals?

Electronic submittals are encouraged. You can submit your complete permit application packet to buildingdept@sequimwa.gov. 

4. Do I need a permit to build a fence?

Yes, if the fence is over 7'. Fences over 8' also require engineering. The fence still must meet the sight triangle requirements for corner lots and not be built in the right of way. For state laws regarding fences, see RCW Chapter 16.60. For more information, see our handout on fences.

5. Do I need a permit to install or replace my propane tank, water heater, or heat pump?

Yes. These would all be over the counter permits, however the requirements vary for manufactured homes. In manufactured homes, permits are required for water heaters, HVAC equipment, and gas lines from Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. Propane tanks installed for manufactured homes require a permit from the City of Sequim.

6. Do I need a permit to re-roof my commercial business or residence?

Yes. Our application is available here: MechanicalPlumbingRe-RoofSolarDemo-Permit-Application (sequimwa.gov). We also require a site plan with the structure marked.

Manufactured home re-roofs are permitted through Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.

7. Do I need a permit to add on to my manufactured home?

Yes, a residential building permit would be required for the new structure. An alteration permit may also be required from the Department of Labor & Industries.
