ADA Compliance
The City of Sequim established this Grievance Procedure to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) requirements, specifically Title II. It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination based on disability in providing City of Sequim services, activities, or programs.
The City of Sequim will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.
The City of Sequim does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under ADA Title I. For City employees, the City’s Personnel Policy governs employment-related complaints on disability discrimination.

The City of Sequim will make reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy its programs, services, and activities.
Upon request, the City of Sequim will generally provide auxiliary aids or services for individuals with hearing, vision, or speech impairments when necessary to ensure effective communication. The City may not charge for the use of auxiliary aid or services.
The City of Sequim is not required to provide an accommodation or modification if it would create a significant alteration in services, programs, or activities or an “undue” financial or administrative burden. Examples of auxiliary aids and services:
- Qualified American Sign Language (ASL) or other interpreters for persons with hearing loss
- Note takers
- Screen readers
- Computer-aided real-time transcription (CART) services
- Video interpreting services
- Assistive listening devices
- Television captioning and decoders
- Telecommunications devices for deaf persons (TDDs)
- Videotext displays, readers, taped texts, audio records, and written materials in Braille, large print, or electronic formats
- Open or closed captioning
Many of these options are not readily available, and staff will need a reasonable amount of time to organize or acquire these services. Please complete the Request for Accommodation form and return it to the ADA Compliance Team as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.
